Spent like two hours messing with the comp again.

 

It's a biiiiiiit suspicious that I can only reset the BIOS when I take both the keyboard and the mouse out of the PS2 ports and replug them in. (Replacing keyboard only won't do it.)

 

So I'm on a USB mouse now. Also: checkdisk removing some stuff that broke my pg2. It better remove the driver requests for the npkcrypt.sys and kl1.sys too (kl1? I've never used Kapersky on this comp before, so it must have been Zonealarm. Good job, ZA. Good job.)

 

Also when seeing that npkcrypt is for Gameguard, I uninstalled the only Gameguard reliant game installed on the comp. Whiiiich I can't really play anyway since I had to switch locale everytime just to get it to run, and that I've never successfully connected to the server anyway, meh.

edit: Event Viewer keeps making npkcrypt.sys and kl1.sys show up. Found something called Autoruns and deleted their startup keys. It'd better work now.

Also: accidentally deleted a autorun key calling on utorrent from my Quick Launch (utorrent was deleted a long time ago anyway) ohwells~

Also also: npkcrypt.sys was calling the Maple installation on the desktop (the hack odin install). Nope, I'm not going to touch MMOs for a long time.

Two days.

I'm not going to make up specific spellcard names for the papers in my MSN personal message as per the last two years, nor talk about mugging playlists.

5/9/08: Before I go off to finish my math, I must tell a story.

The last 24 hours were the most daunting time I ever had with my computer for a long while.

 

Pretty list:
-BSOD with kmixer.sys crashing

-Powerbutton'd before memory dump was completed

-BIOS won't even start

-Had to clear CMOS multiple times (oh hey holding insert and pressing the power button worked))

-Saw the American Megatrends brand for the first time since 2000?

-Potential causes: Firefox (all preferences were reset somehow), Avira + Minimem (only suspected because they were just installed recently)

-Afterwards, Avira found Autorun.cxl in some less-than-honest stuff given to me by a friend (that's why I quit AVG, eh)

 

Anyways, right now Everything is bright instead of Everything is crying, Firefox's preferences were all set back (I didn't change much settings....right?), except for the NoScript whitelisted sites, which will build up again over time.

5/9/08:Yay, finally found a Firefox theme I like. Now I can stop using that 1.0-compatible-only buggy thing. :/

9/9/08: How hard is it to write your own testimonial? I'd rather turn off the comp and go do some trig and log. That's how hard it is.

Also: Windows says the hanging (which still persists...) is due to borked hardware. Maybe like the RAM stick.
